sub|cal|i|ber

sub|cal|i|ber or sub|cal|i|bre «suhb KAL uh buhr», adjective.
1. (of a shell, bullet, or other projectile) having a diameter less than that of the bore of the gun from which it is fired. Subcaliber projectiles are fitted with a disk the size of the bore or fired from a tube attached to the inside or the outside of the gun, and are used in practice firing as a substitute for more costly full-sized projectiles.
